Frequently Asked Questions
How do GLP-1s support whole-body health?
GLP-1 is a natural hormone released after you eat, and its receptors are found throughout your body—not just in your stomach, but also in your brain, heart, and blood vessels. That means GLP-1s can do much more than manage appetite. They can help regulate blood sugar, support heart and metabolic health, and even influence energy and inflammation.
The vast majority of people won’t be on a GLP-1 forever. Noom uses GLP-1s as part of a program to help kickstart a lasting identity shift. GLP-1s may open a window of lowered food noise and rising self-efficacy, where action produces results and results fuel more action. This is how health can become habit, not effort.
What is GLP-1 Microdosing?
The Proactive Health program utilizes the lowest doses of GLP-1 of any Noom program, typically about 15% of the typically prescribed maintenance dose of our standard GLP-1 program. Microdosing means finding the dose that is tailored to your unique biology. Instead of following a standard rapid-escalation schedule, our clinical protocol focuses on identifying a dose that provides meaningful health benefits, while being specifically designed to minimize side effects so you can maintain your quality of life.
How is the Proactive Health program different from other Noom programs?
While our standard programs focus primarily on weight loss, Proactive Health is designed for proactive health optimization. It is available to a wider range of individuals (BMI 21+) and combines a tailored microdose of GLP-1 medication with regular advanced biomarker testing. The Proactive Health program can help you if you’re looking to kickstart your health, feel better today, and see the improvement in your bloodwork and health tomorrow.
Will I lose weight?
For those with a weight goal, the program adapts to you to support your weight loss goal. For those without a goal to lose weight, the program adapts to focus on overall health improvements that you can see for yourself in the biomarker testing every 4 months.
Noom members report that GLP-1s help them make health a habit. For example, 86% of Noom members on our lowest dose reported improvement in cravings. They were also more likely to say their mood, focus, and mental clarity improved after treatment.
Will I experience side effects like nausea?
Our clinical philosophy is “start low and go slow.” Our SmartDose protocol is specifically designed to minimize side effects by tailoring the dose to your body’s response. While every individual is different, our goal is to help you achieve health benefits without the discomfort often associated with higher doses.
Will I work with a doctor?
Yes. You will have 1:1 access to a licensed clinician. They will review your history, prescribe your medication (if appropriate), and monitor your progress. You are not doing this alone; you have a medical partner adjusting your plan as your needs evolve.
How do the at-home lab tests work?
We make lab work virtually painless and convenient. Your subscription includes an easy-to-use test kit shipped directly to your door. You’ll use a simple, virtually painless device to collect a small sample from your arm—no scary needles, no phlebotomy appointments, and no waiting rooms.
What biomarkers are included in the test?
Your panel is scientifically curated to focus on the essential drivers of your long-term health. Rather than overwhelming you with unnecessary data, we track the 17 key markers that directly impact metabolic function, heart health, inflammation, and hormonal balance.
Here is the complete list of biomarkers tested:
- High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)
- Hemoglobin A1c
- Fasting lipid panel: TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, and total cholesterol
- Total Cholesterol/HDL-C ratio
- LDL-C/ApoB ratio
- Triglycerides/HDL-C ratio
- Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]
- Apolipoprotein B (ApoB)
- DHEA-sulfate (DHEA-S)
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin B12
- Estradiol (E2)
- Total testosterone
- Luteinizing hormone (LH)
How accurate and reliable is the at-home biomarker testing?
Noom uses the market-leading Tasso device, which has been cleared as a Class II medical device by the FDA. We also use CLIA-certified labs to analyze the results. CLIA-certified labs are regulated by CMS and adhere to quality standards for reliability. Our goal is to provide you the results inside the Noom experience within about a week after receiving your completed kit.
What happens if I am not eligible for a health plan with GLP-1s?
If you’re not eligible for GLP-1 medication, you’ll still receive a personalized health plan focused on behavior change. Our approach is holistic—so you’ll get science-backed support to help you feel better and improve your health, no matter your starting point. Of course, you’ll be refunded for the cost of the Proactive Health program.
Is insurance required?
No. The Proactive Health program is a transparent cash-pay model, meaning you do not need insurance to join. Your monthly subscription covers the cost of your clinician, your medication, your at-home lab kits, and shipping—no surprise bills or copays.
Am I eligible for this program?
This program is open to individuals with a BMI of 21 or higher, who are looking to optimize their whole-body health. Eligibility is determined by a licensed clinician based on your health history.
